Update: Unity Church of New Hope, December 27th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

Where has the time gone?  2008 is rapidly coming to a close and 2009 is almost here.  As I pick up and put away the Christmas decorations at home and church, my thoughts are now filled with the New Year.  What do I really want to experience in 2009?  I have started a "check list" of experiences I wish to have in this brand new year.
In spite of the "up and down and often puzzling US and world economy", I am optimistic about the fulfillment of my "check lists".  I often remember the story that Jesus cited in the New Testament about the man who filled his barns with food so that he could have security.  His barns ended up destroyed and his "security" was gone.  What does this mean?  It means that oftentimes our faith is misplaced.  Faith in God instead of bank accounts is the only true security.  The song "Day by Day" takes on new meaning in this context.  We can only live life "day by day" and it is past time to let go of fears about our future and enjoy the journey of life in a day by day experience.
Does this mean we don't plan?  No, it means we plan and have faith in God to provide for our desires, dreams, hopes and purpose for our lives.  When we open up to God, we open up to experiences, people and events beyond our wildest imaginings.  Coincidences, serendipity and "miracles" begin to occur as we "let go and let God".
I am excited about planning a wonderful 2009 year at the church.  What a year we have had with the new building addition!!!!  We are so blessed with many wonderful visionary people at our church.
I invite you to start 2009 off at our church New Year's Eve Bowl Burning service where we have a chance to "let go of the old unwanted" feelings, experiences, etc.  We will write these on paper and burn them.  Then we will have an opportunity to write a letter from our heart to God about what we wish to experience in our lives in 2009.  These letters will go into envelops and will be mailed back to us in June, 2009.
Then it is time to bring in the New Year with a party at the church.  Bring your snacks, games, and most of all your love and enthusiasm to this party and bring in the most wonderful 2009!!!!

     See you soon!

      Ellen Davis

VISIONING CLASS
(each Wednesday 7:30 PM)
Ellen Davis and Lane Pierce Facilitators

The class is currently working on putting their goals in writing to correlate with the images in their books.
Visioning is all about dreaming, fantasizing, clarifying and energizing your life.  You decide what it is you want in your life and then begin to envision those things. By collecting and organizing images of items or important words you can surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires.  Between Ellen's commitment to the system of Visioning and Lane's commitment to goal setting there are many lessons to be learned in20any one night of Visioning class.
This class is supported by love offerings.
A Vision Book is really an inventory of your desires - come stock your shelves.

Update: Unity Church of New Hope, December 18th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

This afternoon I received a "change of plans" phone call from my oldest daughter.  She and her family are flying in from the St. Louis area at 9:00 AM at Love Field instead of tomorrow evening.  She will be staying at my house tomorrow, at a local hotel Sat., and my house on Sunday.  My youngest daughter and Rebecca, my 9 year old granddaughter, are starting out from the Nixa, MO area at 6:00 AM Saturday in order to be able to attend an extended family gathering with my sister and children and their families and my mother Saturday afternoon.  She will leave early Sunday morning.
I realized that these change of plans meant I had to be through earlier than I thought in buying and wrapping gifts, cleaning the house and planning meals.  I am just now sitting down right now at the end of a very busy time today.
I am not alone in the "busyness" of this season.  This is the time when it is easy to feel pressured and rushed to get things done.  Whenever I feel this way, I pause and sit down (often at my computer) and feel how blessed and grateful I am for my life, family, friends and church.  I am grateful that my children are making a long trip to celebrate Christmas with me and my extended family.  I am grateful I have extended family to see this year.
I had the TV on while I was picking up and cleaning and realized how easy it is to get caught up in "how bad everything is" in the economy.  I stop and "breathe" and give thanks for all the good that is flowing into my life in the way of prosperity.  I am thankful for the health and energy I am feeling after being sick.
Taking frequent time outs, connecting to Spirit, and "counting our blessings" works its magic and the holiday becomes a Christmas of the Heart.
This Sunday is very special with Jack's rendition of Conrad's Christmas and all the very special music Kathryn has planned for us.  The Candlelight Service brings us closer to the true meaning of Christmas which is then followed by our "always fun and laughter filled" Christmas party.

     See you soon!

Update: Unity of New Hope, December 11th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

Everyday when I drive past gas stations I marvel at the drop in price in the cost of gas.  How could a gallon cost almost $5 a gallon last summer and now be about $1.45 a gallon? And then there are auto makers, banks, and large corporations in trouble.  It is difficult not to wonder what is happening to our economy and how all of this change will affect us individually.
It is at times like these that I appreciate the spiritual principles that we teach in Unity.  We believe that God is our source for all that we need.  This may sound impersonal until we go through a difficult financial challenge.  I went through my own personal financial challenge last month as I was facing a house tax which was more than I had anticipated.   I knew it was important not to think about the lack but instead to concentrate on the thought that I have all I need to pay the tax. (Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind)  I prayed and believed in the idea that God is my source.  I brainstormed and thought about selling my Jeep and buying a less expensive car.  I went through all kinds of scenarios but throughout the entire process I relied on God to provide the way for me.   I have to admit that I was more than shocked and very thankful  to go to the mailbox about 3 weeks ago and open up 4 checks  from a totally unexpected source
which more than covered my tax .  What I appreciate about the spiritual principles is that they are practical and work.  All of us have challenges which are all different and unique but there is always a "way out" or answer when we focus on God.
God is our source and "with God all things are possible".  I will be talking about this topic on Sunday as we explore the role of angels in our lives.  We may think we are alone but we are not.
Join us this month as we celebrate Christmas through music, candles, prayer and giving.  Look in this email to see all our activities.

See you soon!

Christmas Teddy Bears

Unity Church of New Hope Ushering Ministry is collecting bears (and any other new stuffed animals) to be donated to Interfaith Ministries for distribution to families with children who might not have toys for Christmas.  You can bring the animals to church and sit them in the pews so that they can be filled with love before they go to their new homes.  They will be taken to IFM the week of December 14th.
This is a treasured tradition at Unity.  The last day will be Sunday, December 14th.
Thank you all for your generosity.

Collecting Winter Coats

Please bring a new or clean, gently used coat to church so that we can donate it to Interfaith Ministries.  Children's coats are especially important because most stay in the family until they are worn-out.  I'm proud to say that we have participated in this free coat program for needy children and adults for the past 5 years.  Contact Carin Horn if you have any questions.  (940.382.1963 or

Update, Unity of New Hope, December 4th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

As I write this I am recovering from laryngitis and a cold.  My thanks to Pamela Sybert who took my place last Sunday at the very last minute and from all reports did a marvelous job of doing the service.  She as well as Lin Weinberg are in training to become Licensed Unity Teachers and I am very grateful to both of them for all they are doing with the church in so many ways.
I am feeling so much better now and am especially grateful to now be able to speak.  I was with my mother and sister when my voice went totally out.  My daughter, Susan, who is a nurse practitioner told me not to whisper or even clear my voice so the only way I had to communicate was by pantomine which I have not done in a long time and by writing which takes a while to do.
During this time, my mother, sister and I decided to see a movie so we went to the local Bedford, TX Movie Tavern and watched Australia.  The movie focused on the Australian Aborigines who "sing" to find their way through situations.  This "singing" is a connection to nature and Spirit/God and is a way they receive guidance.  Storytelling is very important to them.
We all have a story to tell with the way we live.  One of the characters in the movie said, "In the end all that remains is our story".  This has made me realize anew that it is important to focus on the "experience of living and loving".  An important question is "What story am I telling by the way I am living?".

We are having a church Christmas decorating party tomorrow evening---- Friday, Dec. 5th at 7:00 PM.   It is always a lot of fun and the children really have fun.  Bring a snack and join us.
       See you soon!

Help with table at Aubrey Tree Lighting

Good morning all!

For the Aubrey Main Street Tree lighting on Thursday, here is what we need so that Unity Church of New Hope has some visibility:

Table and someone who can haul it
Goodies--candy, cookies, treats for approx 150-- I will commit to 3 dozen cookies--anyone else?
(I say pass on providing beveridges--keep it simple!)
Flyers/packets/church info
Table cloth
Decorations for table-I will bring something festive

We can set up at 4:30 and the event begins at 5:30

If you know people in the church that would be interested in helping, please pass this on. I neglected to mention it at church yesterday, so I fear we may need more volunteers.

Call me or email me if you are able to help out. I will be in the general vicinity of the Fire Station pavillion at 4:30.
Thanks in advance for your participation!

Update: Unity of New Hope, November 29th

                  NOTE FROM ELLEN

Thanksgiving has come and gone!!  I hope each of you enjoyed your holiday time.  I am at my mother's home in Bedford, Texas visiting with her and my sister, Paula.  We experienced a moving and unusual incident yesterday
We went out to eat yesterday at a popular restaurant and at this place you prepay for your tickets for a buffet and are seated.  We were in a very long line.  When it came time to pay, the cashier was looking at us very confused and said "Wait a minute".
The cashier then called out to a woman ahead of us who was on her way to being seated.  The lady came back and the cashier said that    my sister was paying for all 3 of us.  The lady said "Ok, I'll pay for all 3".  We were totally confused.  The cashier said, "That lady wanted to pay for your mother's ticket not knowing that we would be paying for her so she went ahead and paid for all 3 of us to eat".  The meals totaled $51.
We were astounded.  My sister said she had never had a stranger pay for anything before.  We sat in silence for a while just thinking about  how that all happened.
That incident reminds me of the book Random Acts of Kindness where the author recommends doing "random acts of kindness" such as paying the tolls for people 2 cars behind you, etc. which boils down to doing kind things for people who would never expect it.
This incident  put us in the Spirit of the holiday season which is about giving from the heart and enjoying the cycle of giving and receiving.
We are having a church Christmas decorating party this Friday, Dec. 5th at 7:00 PM.   It is always a lot of fun and the children really have fun.  Bring a snack and join us.
       See you soon!

Christmas Teddy Bears

Unity Church of New Hope Ushering Ministry is collecting bears (and any other new stuf fed animals) to be donated to Interfaith Ministries for distribution to families with children who might not have toys for Christmas.  You can bring the animals to church and sit them in the pews so that they can be filled with love before they go to their new homes.  They will be taken to IFM the week of December 14th.
This is a treasured tradition at Unity.  Please begin bringing your animals next Sunday, November 23rd.

(940.382.1963 or carinhorn@aol.com)

Update: Unity Church of New Hope, November 20th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

Last week, I asked my 7 year old granddaughter, Grace, what she wanted for Christmas.  Immediately she answered that she wanted a Webkinz for Christmas.  I have been out of the world of children for a long time so I was not exactly sure what she was talking about.  After she went to school, I made a trip to Hallmark to get some Christmas Cards and "lo and behold" there was a huge display of Webkinz which are small stuffed animals with a code on them.  When you buy one, you enter the code onto the Webkinz site and then you receive an Owner's certificate plus there is a lot of interactive fun activities to do on the site.
When Grace came home, I took her to Hallmark to select a Webkin and she was in "heaven".  She held each animal and was in awe that she was about to get one for Christmas.  There was a sale and by the time we were through, I had bought her a pony webkin with an ou tfit to play with that she could have now and and a Dalmatian Webkin and outfit she could have on Christmas.
We went home and the next big challenge was actually getting on the Webkinz website.  Evidently lots of people were on the site and there was a message that kept repeating to "try again as the site is full".  Grace kept making comments about her 10 year old cousin, Rebecca, who has lots of Webkinz animals, saying she bet that Rebecca was tying up the website.  Finally I suggested she call Rebecca.
Grace called Rebecca who was thrilled to hear from Grace.  At the end I saw Grace shut her eyes gearing up her nerve.  I wondered what she was doing until she said to Rebecca "I love you" and then she tensed up.  Rebecca replied "I love you too" and there was a huge smile on Grace's face.
I have been thinking about that episode a lot because it is so difficult for some people to express love to others.  There is a fear that it might be taken the wrong way or there might be an ulterior motive behind it.
Acting from a spiritual place of unconditional love is the only commandment that Jesus gave us.  All we have to do is love God, love ourselves and love others to experience "heaven on earth".
Don't miss the opportunity this coming Sunday to see and hear Rev. Leo Booth who is an ordained Unity minister but very well known by millions and is in demand as a speaker.
And don't miss the most wonderful potluck of the year---Thanksgiving Potluck.  The church is providing the meat and you are invited to bring your favorite holiday dish.
      See you soon!
