Update: Unity of New Hope, September 25th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

Most of you know that I am a big believer in dreams and accessing our own inner wisdom through writing and journaling    When I have questions about my life whether it be financial, in relationships, etc.  I write down the question and state the concern and then wait for an answer to come at which time I record the answer.

Today while at church,  I found an article I wrote for the Unity of Ft. Smith newsletter in April of 1998 which I thought I would share with you because I had a life changing dream but did not understand it at first.  So I asked for clarification in reflection and meditation.    Since we will be talking about guidance as part of the Four Agreements this Sunday I thought this would be a good time to share my past experience.  Below is directly from the newsletter.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

One night in April of 1995 I sat bolt awake.  I had had an image of my deceased father handing me a large stainless steel bowl which had bread dough in it topped with his recipe for making bread.  He looked like he was trying to get an important message across to me.  The only problem was that I was not getting the message.

I wrote it down the next day and considered its meaning for my life.  I had been praying for a right answer to my life.  My late husband, Dean, had miraculously survived a very serious brain aneurysm and surgery but had lost his job.   I was trying to decide whether to sell the bookstore and what we should do with our lives.

The following is verbatim from my meditation journal of that day.  I have underlined key parts.

"Bread is the symbol of the very stuff of life.  As food it is very filling and satisfying.  America is considered the breadbasket of the world not only because there is so much food but because the opportunity to make money is here also.  Universally bread is considered the staff of life.

Bread is also the slang or vernacular for money.  How many times have you heard the phrase, "Do you have any bread on you?"  The substance from which bread is made (dough) is also considered the slang for money.

Your father had a message for your dream.  In your dream he was handing you the dough in a stainless steel bowl and a recipe.  In essence he was handing you the recipe for turning the dough into bread or dough into money.  Not only will this recipe bring you materially what you need but it will be very satisfying to your soul.

Remember the Lord's Prayer, "give us this day our daily bread".  Always acknowledge the source for the bread, the author of the recipe as God, the Universal Presence, the energy and light of all creation.

Your father appearing is a reminder that "God is the father or the giver of all good things.  The Lord's Prayer begins "Our father which art in Heaven".  It is also significant that Jesus fed the multitudes with the 5 loaves.  Jesus often referred to God as the father who provided bread to the people of this world.

The recipe is the formula for turning dough into bread or converting the universal substance into material shape and form.  All things in the universe are basically built out of the same substance and are ideas expressing as reality.  We are literally thought into existence by universal intelligence.

You must take the idea that you have and work with it in consciousness.  In your life you want to be financially successful in fulfilling your purpose.  You must germinate this idea by mixing the idea with yeast which is your faith.  In making bread you warm the yeast and then wait while it rises.  In life you must do the same thing with your ideas.  Your enthusiasm and ideas must germinate within in just the right amount of time.  Conditions and situations begin to go to work as your faith creates conditions and events to come together perfectly.  Faith is the yeast.

After the dough has risen it still is not bread.  It must be formed and shaped into loaves.  Your imaging power must go to work on the idea.  This is the time to visualize and image in exact detail what you wish to experience.  You must take your stand in consciousness and then continue to have faith.

The bread is baked in the oven.  In the same way your idea is tested out in the fire of life.  Never let go of the perfect idea and even though the fires of life work at your idea, the perfect events and people are being drawn to you to cause your idea to work.  Timing is everything.

Jesus fed the multitudes with the bread.  To be a good idea your creation must meet the needs of the people.  Jesus gave thanks before he broke the bread and the multiplication process began.  Give thanks for what you have.  Know that God is the source and more will be given to you.  Share what you have and more will come.  There must always be circulation and flow.

I felt that the above interpretation was correct for me.  The end result was that I sold the bookstore and decided to become more involved with Unity once again.

VISIONING CLASS
(each Wednesday 7:30 PM)
Ellen Davis and Lane Pierce Facilitators
The Wednesday night visioning class has decided to begin planning for the second half of 2008.  The class is currently working on putting their goals in writing to correlate with the images in their books.
Visioning is all about dreaming, fantasizing, clarifying and energizing your life.  You decide what it is you want in your life and then begin to envision those things. By collecting and organizing images of items or important words you can surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires.  Between Ellen's commitment to the system of Visioning and Lane's commitment to goal setting there are many lessons to be learned in any one night of Visioning class.
This class is supported by love offerings.
A Vision Book is really an inventory of your desires - come stock your shelves.

Update: Unity of New Hope, September 18th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

What a lot of change in one week!!!  Hurricane Ike made landfall, which changed the lives of so many people on the Texas coast.  The US financial markets took a downturn with major financial corporations declaring bankruptcy.  People are losing jobs and homes.  Many people are fearful about what all of these changes might mean in their future.

Fear is the biggest enemy for all of us.  I have worked with fear in my own life and was remembering this morning the time period when I first arrived at the church in June of 1999 and was facing my own personal fears.

In 1998 my late husband, Dean, and I put everything in storage in Ft. Smith, Arkansas in 1998 and were on the road starting Unity churches for SCUCA, the regional Unity organization.  That job was temporary and then it was over.  Dean went to Corpus Christi to work with Unity by the Sea, a church he had started about 25 years earlier.  I remained there with him for about 6 months when Unity of Denton sent word about the possibility of trying out for the position of Spiritual Leader.

I was selected as spiritual leader out of 3 candidates and arrived in June of 1999 with literally a car full of clothes and a lot of wondering about my life.  All of my possessions were in storage in Ft. Smith, Arkansas where we had last lived.  Dean was in Corpus Christi with a job that did not pay enough to meet expenses even though the salary was good for a church at the time and now I was in the Denton area with no place to live and wondering about my future.

I remember well when I first arrived at the church at Oak Street in Denton.  I unloaded all of my clothes in one of the rooms and briefly had the thought that maybe I could spend the night in one of the rooms and just live at the church for a while.  It seemed like a "haven" or "sanctuary" after my time of wandering from place to place.

I rented a room at a week-to-week place in the Euless area close to where my mother lived and still lives in Bedford.  I remember setting up my computer and thinking that I had to do something with my thoughts to keep them centered away from fear of finances and the future. I wondered if Dean and I would ever be able to live together and I was concerned about his rapidly declining health.  What would we do financially if he could no longer work because of health problems?  Where was I going to live in Denton and how could I afford it?  Fear loomed very large in my mind and thoughts.

So I sat down at my computer, which I managed to cram into my car with enough clothes to get through a couple of months. I looked at lists I had made of desired income, living situations, etc. which I had projected for various months throughout the year of 1999.   I focused on what I wanted to experience and I knew that I would have to totally depend on God to provide everyday for all my needs and I would just have to let go of fear and concerns.  I constantly centered on the idea of God as my source for everything and that as a child of God I would be provided with all that I needed.

It all worked out in ways I would never have dreamed of.  A member of the church had paid for her mother to live in a triplex and the mother could not live there so I lived there for the first month rent-free and then was able to pay for the rent myself.  Dean become very ill and moved back with me and was under hospice care for 4.5 years.  We got our things out of storage and I was able to arrange to buy a home where I live now.  I also was able to purchase a new car, which was on my "vision" list.  I became ordained through a Field Licensing process that again was on my Vision and Mission statement.

I went through another set of circumstances that could have caused a lot of fear and concern when Dean died in 2004.  His Social Security income was gone and I had to make it up as best I could.  There was a lot of adjusting to "loss" in my life.  I knew I again had to trust God to see me through so much change in legal areas, health wise as I went through a rare cataract surgery (I had an unusual cataract) and emotionally as I adjusted to life without Dean.  I knew it was important to heal before even thinking about having another relationship in my life so I gave myself time and space to be by myself and get to know myself as an individual.  I joined 2 grief groups, made goals for my future and used every Unity principle I knew of.  I started the Visioning class and participated personally.  For 3 years I took Dean's place in leading meditation classes.  The finances came in when I needed them, the cataract surgery went fine, and many of my goals have come to pass.

And now I am at a place where I can look back and see that God was with me at every fearful juncture.  And I know that I can depend on God in the future as I face other fears and challenging situations.   I am certain that each of you have had experiences in this way also.

There will always be change in the world and in our lives and we never know what is ahead.  However we all have the choice of "letting go of fear" and trusting in God to provide as the Israelites did on their way to the Promised Land.  They could not store up food (manna) and were given manna on a day-by-day basis only.  They were surrounded by enemies and wondering if they could make it.  Their trust in God allowed them to enter into the Promised Land and establish a home.

If you find yourself entertaining thoughts of fear about your future, realize that you too have a choice to let go of the fear and center on God as your Source.  Make lists of what you would like to see in your life and know that "with God all things are possible".  Connect to God through prayer and meditation.  Stay around like minded people as much as possible.

My sister sent me the following link which is research that Baylor University did on Angels in people's lives which is published in the CNN time site.  We are not alone....even if we feel that way.

Update: Unity of New Hope, September 11th

NOTE FROM ELLEN!
Mik Birze, Board Chair, and David from Cashion's Builders
September 10th, 2008

Mik Birze and David from Cashion's Builders, walked through the building yesterday and we were officially told it is ours now.   This last week has been very busy with county inspections, insurance, removal of the mobile unit and many other details.

Many thanks to the Sunday School teachers (Mary Oliver, Clay Davis and Shari Turner) & directors (Lin Weinberg and Mary McFall) who showed up for a meeting last night and came early to help us move all their stuff into their new rooms.  Thanks also to Fred & Andrea Perrin and Colleen and Lane Pierce for coming in to help Mik and I move things out of the sanctuary.

We still have a ways to go before the building is totally completed.  New kitchen cabinets will be installed, tile floors waxed, and furnishings purchased for the youth department.  But...we can spread out now....There is much more space for parties and potlucks in the future.  And the Sunday School now has much more space which is wonderful for our children.  The teens have their own room at the back to fix and enjoy.  And we have more bathrooms too!!!!

A very special thank you to Mik Birze who has spent countless hours on every phase of this project  For many months he spent a lot of time answering questions from the builders, working on legal aspects with permits, insurance, etc. and helping prepare for inspections.  He coordinated the mobile unit rental and was in on a lot of committee meetings.  Thank you, Mik, for a job well done.

We will all have a chance to be in the new addition with the beginning of the Fall Program this Saturday.  Plan to be here as we have a prayer vigil starting at 1:00 PM and running through 8:00 PM.  At 8:00 we will walk the labyrinth if the weather holds out.  We have a Plan B if it is raining so plan to come ahead and enjoy this day.

See you soon!!
