Update: Unity of New Hope, November 29th

                  NOTE FROM ELLEN

Thanksgiving has come and gone!!  I hope each of you enjoyed your holiday time.  I am at my mother's home in Bedford, Texas visiting with her and my sister, Paula.  We experienced a moving and unusual incident yesterday
We went out to eat yesterday at a popular restaurant and at this place you prepay for your tickets for a buffet and are seated.  We were in a very long line.  When it came time to pay, the cashier was looking at us very confused and said "Wait a minute".
The cashier then called out to a woman ahead of us who was on her way to being seated.  The lady came back and the cashier said that    my sister was paying for all 3 of us.  The lady said "Ok, I'll pay for all 3".  We were totally confused.  The cashier said, "That lady wanted to pay for your mother's ticket not knowing that we would be paying for her so she went ahead and paid for all 3 of us to eat".  The meals totaled $51.
We were astounded.  My sister said she had never had a stranger pay for anything before.  We sat in silence for a while just thinking about  how that all happened.
That incident reminds me of the book Random Acts of Kindness where the author recommends doing "random acts of kindness" such as paying the tolls for people 2 cars behind you, etc. which boils down to doing kind things for people who would never expect it.
This incident  put us in the Spirit of the holiday season which is about giving from the heart and enjoying the cycle of giving and receiving.
We are having a church Christmas decorating party this Friday, Dec. 5th at 7:00 PM.   It is always a lot of fun and the children really have fun.  Bring a snack and join us.
       See you soon!

        Ellen Davis

Christmas Teddy Bears

Unity Church of New Hope Ushering Ministry is collecting bears (and any other new stuf fed animals) to be donated to Interfaith Ministries for distribution to families with children who might not have toys for Christmas.  You can bring the animals to church and sit them in the pews so that they can be filled with love before they go to their new homes.  They will be taken to IFM the week of December 14th.
This is a treasured tradition at Unity.  Please begin bringing your animals next Sunday, November 23rd.  The last day will be Sunday, December 14th.
Thank you all for your generosity.

Collecting Winter Coats

Please bring a new or clean, gently used coat to church so that we can donate it to Interfaith Ministries.  Children's coats are especially important because most stay in the family until they are worn-out.  I'm proud to say that we have participated in this free coat program for needy children and adults for the past 5 years.  Contact Carin Horn if you have any questions.  (940.382.1963 or carinhorn@aol.com)

VISIONING CLASS
(each Wednesday 7:30 PM)
Ellen Davis and Lane Pierce Facilitators

The class is currently working on putting their goals in writing to correlate with the images in their books.
Visioning is all about dreaming, fantasizing, clarifying and energizing your life.  You decide what it is you want in your life and then begin to envision those things. By collecting and organizing images of items or important words you can surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires.  Between Ellen's commitment to the system of Visioning and Lane's commitment to goal setting there are many lessons to be learned in20any one night of Visioning class.
This class is supported by love offerings.
A Vision Book is really an inventory of your desires - come stock your shelves.

Update: Unity Church of New Hope, November 20th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

Last week, I asked my 7 year old granddaughter, Grace, what she wanted for Christmas.  Immediately she answered that she wanted a Webkinz for Christmas.  I have been out of the world of children for a long time so I was not exactly sure what she was talking about.  After she went to school, I made a trip to Hallmark to get some Christmas Cards and "lo and behold" there was a huge display of Webkinz which are small stuffed animals with a code on them.  When you buy one, you enter the code onto the Webkinz site and then you receive an Owner's certificate plus there is a lot of interactive fun activities to do on the site.
When Grace came home, I took her to Hallmark to select a Webkin and she was in "heaven".  She held each animal and was in awe that she was about to get one for Christmas.  There was a sale and by the time we were through, I had bought her a pony webkin with an ou tfit to play with that she could have now and and a Dalmatian Webkin and outfit she could have on Christmas.
We went home and the next big challenge was actually getting on the Webkinz website.  Evidently lots of people were on the site and there was a message that kept repeating to "try again as the site is full".  Grace kept making comments about her 10 year old cousin, Rebecca, who has lots of Webkinz animals, saying she bet that Rebecca was tying up the website.  Finally I suggested she call Rebecca.
Grace called Rebecca who was thrilled to hear from Grace.  At the end I saw Grace shut her eyes gearing up her nerve.  I wondered what she was doing until she said to Rebecca "I love you" and then she tensed up.  Rebecca replied "I love you too" and there was a huge smile on Grace's face.
I have been thinking about that episode a lot because it is so difficult for some people to express love to others.  There is a fear that it might be taken the wrong way or there might be an ulterior motive behind it.
Acting from a spiritual place of unconditional love is the only commandment that Jesus gave us.  All we have to do is love God, love ourselves and love others to experience "heaven on earth".
Don't miss the opportunity this coming Sunday to see and hear Rev. Leo Booth who is an ordained Unity minister but very well known by millions and is in demand as a speaker.
And don't miss the most wonderful potluck of the year---Thanksgiving Potluck.  The church is providing the meat and you are invited to bring your favorite holiday dish.
      See you soon!

Update: Unity of New Hope, November 13th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

I am at my oldest daughter's home in Belleville, Illinois just across the river from St. Louis.  Sharon is on a work-related trip and I am staying with my 2 grandchildren until tomorrow when I fly back home.
I am back into the world of elementary school right now as I "help" with homework.  Grace is in the 2nd grade and has "algebra"?? homework?  Did I have algebra in the 2nd grade?  I picked up Garrett from band practice yesterday.  We went to gymnastics on Monday.  Normally they do rock climbing at the YMCA on Wednesdays.  Then there is the food for dinner and making sure that they are taking baths, getting dressed, etc.  Those of you with small children recognize this routine but...I have been out of it for years.  It takes lots of energy=2 0and patience to be a parent!!!
My daughter printed out a "to do" list for each child and myself.  Surprisingly both Garrett (10 years old) and Grace (7 years old) love to follow the lists.  There is a place to check off what has been done.  I then initial that it is done and we move on to the next item.
These lists are a reminder to me that this is an effective tool for daily work to get done.  There is just a feeling of accomplishment when I am able to "check off" an item on the list and then when the whole list is checked off, I feel so good.
Motivational and inspirational speakers of every kind of system of thought have all emphasized the value of list making.  It takes just a few minutes each day to make a list and then it is amazing how easy it is to get everything done.  I also like to make monthly and yearly lists/goals.  It puts order and focus into the day/week/year.   And it is as if the universe conspires to help you get the lists accomplished.  The lists are actually "intentions" about your life and what you would like to see happening.
Please note that the Silent Auction has been moved to sometime in the next 6 months to give plenty of time to plan and execute the auction.
I hope to see many of you at the "clean up" day at the church starting at 9:30.
     See you soon!

Update: Unity Church of New Hope, November 7th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

Last week I decided to go get my car washed and cleaned at a local car wash place.  It was a beautiful day and I was sitting outdoors on a bench when a woman sat down next to me and started talking to me.  "What do you think of that book?", she asked, pointing to a book I had brought with me to read.  The book was "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne.  She went on to say that her sister had insisted she buy that book and she wanted to know what I thought.
I told her that I think it is a wonderful book and that what they teach in the book works.  She said in that case she was going to go out and buy the book.
I sat there after she left and thought about the tremendous success of The Secret and the movie that came out based on the book.  The spiritual principles that Unity teaches are  found everywhere in the book.  Tthe following quotes from Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity are in the book:

"The spiritual substance from which comes all visible wealth is never depleted  It is right with you all the time and responds to your faith in it and to your demands on it"  page 103
"Divine Mind is the one and only reality"  page 161

She also recommends people buy the Old Testament Millionaire series of books written by Catherne Ponder who was my first Unity minister and who has written many books about Unity principles.

James Trapp, President of the Association of Unity Churches Worldwide,  has this to say about "The Secret":  "The Secret has been around for a while and what the secret really is is that Unity has been teaching these principles in a significant way for a significant period of time."  (Pulled by a Vision CD by AUC)

We live in a world that is now openly discussing the spiritual principles that Unity has been teaching for years.  These principles work.

We all face challenges and these challenges vary from person to person.  All of us have access to the same resources to deal with these challenges:  Go within for answers to these challenges;, pick up a spiritual book; come to church and be around like minded people and know that life can be enjoyed.

See you very soon!

Ellen Davis

DON'T MISS REV. LEO BOOTH
November 23rd
Sunday morning Service & Workshop
After the church service is a Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner

Reverend Leo is an internationally acclaimed author, lecturer, and trainer on all aspects of spirituality and recovery from depression, addictions, or compulsive behaviors, and low self-esteem. He holds a Masters degree in Theology from King's College, London, England, and is a Certified Addictions Counselor and a Certified Eating Disorders Counselor, and a Spiritual Consultant to several treatment centers. In addition to specific in-services and lectures on religious addiction and abuse, Reverend Leo presents workshops, lectures, and training on a broad spectrum of issues to a variety of organizations and institutions. He is contributing columnist to several publications. Reverend Leo has appeared on such television shows as The Oprah Winfrey Show, Geraldo, and others.
Reverend Leo was born in England and raised in a home divided by religious arguments. Driven and ambitious, he became one of the youngest rectors in England. He also became an alcoholic. After a drunken car crash in 1977 that led to his treatment for alcoholism, he subsequently devoted his work to helping addicts and others who suffer from low self-esteem. From his work as both minister and an addictions counselor, he has developed a new spiritual model based on Choice, Action, Responsibility, and Empowerment.

Meditation is good for the mind, body and soul.  If you have never participated in a group meditation, it is something to be experienced.  Getting to know God is an urge and craving of all beings.  Meditation will help you make that connection.
This special program is supported through your love offering and the most important part is your participation. Come to the church or set aside the time and meditate with us from your home if you cannot make it in person.  Be a part of something bigger.

Wednesday
Spiritual Discussion Class

VISIONING CLASS
(each Wednesday 7:30 PM)
Ellen Davis and Lane Pierce Facilitators

The class is currently working on putting their goals in writing to correlate with the images in their books.
Visioning is all about dreaming, fantasizing, clarifying and energizing your life.  You decide what it is you want in your life and then begin to envision those things. By collecting and organizing images of items or important words you can surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires.  Between Ellen's commitment to the system of Visioning and Lane's commitment to goal setting there are many lessons to be learned in any one night of Visioning class.
This class is supported by love offerings.
A Vision Book is really an inventory of your desires - come stock your shelves.
