Update, Unity of New Hope, January 29th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

About a month ago I was sitting at my desk at the church and heard a tapping noise.  I opened my door and saw a bird tapping at the glass in the church window visible from the chair in my office.  This was the beginning of a barrage of tapping by various birds at the window for most of the month.
Dale Yeatts and Linda D'amanda were at the church one Saturday working on the various IRS required financials for the church when the "tap—tap—tap" occurred.  Dale asked me about the tapping noise and I pointed to the bird.  He said that when he and his wife, Linda, moved into their house birds were tapping at their window and they were puzzled by it until they found out that the previous owner would give the birds food after they tapped.  It was a learned behavior on their part.
I have been thinking about any possible meaning of the birds tapping.  Some people have told me that the birds are seeing themselves in the windows and tapping to get their mirror image to respond.  But… why didn't they do this before now?
In the Native American culture birds are a symbol of a message from God or the Great Spirit.  In dream symbology birds are a symbol of the ability to soar to higher awareness.
And, yes, I have heard that birds tap when someone is going to die.
Whatever the reason for the birds doing their "thing", I have enjoyed the diversion.  I will be hard at work on various church projects and the tapping brings me into another awareness of nature.  I invariably stop and think about life and its many mysteries and the wonder of it all.  Maybe that in itself is the message---being aware of the interconnectedness of nature.
Don't miss the Pancake Breakfast at 10:00 AM this Sunday.  Plus, Sidd Foster will be doing our music and we always enjoy her music.

See you soon!

Visioning is all about dreaming, fantasizing, clarifying and energizing your life.  You decide what it is you want in your life and then begin to envision those things. By collecting and organizing images of items or important words you can surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires.  Between Ellen's commitment to the system of Visioning and Lane's commitment to goal setting there are many lessons to be learned i n any one night of Visioning class.

Update: Unity of New Hope, January 22nd

                       NOTE FROM ELLEN
During the Presidential campaign we heard the words "hope" and "change" used over and over by the candidates.  Although these words were used specifically for desired changes in our nation, we can use these words for own lives.
Have you given up hope in some area of your life?  Maybe you have tried and tried to lose weight, have a loving relationship, become financially prosperous, find a job, be cured of a physical challenge, etc. and nothing seems to work.
To lose hope is to actually claim, feel and think that the universe/God/Spirit cannot help us in dealing with these situations.  All the effort we expend to have things work out could manifest much easier and quicker by connecting with God and "asking" in prayer for the help we need.  In the New Testament, Jesus gave thanks and prayed before performing miracles.
If there is an area in your life that is troubling, connect to God and ask God for the help you need.  Be open and receptive to answers.  Be willing to follow the guidance you receive.  When you pray, you not only receive help but you connect with the energy of love, which is so renewing and restoring.  This energy will sustain you through crisis and give you the strength, wisdom and insight to move through all the changes in your life.
Start your Sunday off at the coffee cafe at 10:00, attend the service and then enjoy the fellowship and food at the spaghetti dinner.

       See you soon!

        Ellen Davis

Update: Unity Church of New Hope, January 15th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

Last week I set the alarm clock and woke up just before the alarm clock went off.  How many times have you had this happen?  I am always amazed when this occurs.
I started thinking about how this works.  I set in my mind a specific time to wake up and go to sleep trusting in the alarm clock.  But since I wake up just before the alarm clock, then something in my mind is geared to help me wake up at the time I want.
Think what this means for our lives.  All you have to do is "set in your mind" whatever it is you want to experience and then trust life to bring it to you.
The most difficult part is not to worry or think about it.  All of us tend to get in the way of what we want by fear or worry.  No wonder Jesus said over and over "Fear not" and yet we are guilty of fearing that we won't have a good outcome of our lives.
I have always found that the things that don't mean as much to me tend to manifest quickly while the most seemingly more important things such as finances don't seem to manifest as quickly.  I know I get in the way of a bigger manifestation by my worry and fear.
How do we reverse that?  By giving life the "light touch".  This takes a lot of trust and faith in God to provide for us and we have to let go of a lot of control as well as fear.  And we have to be specific as well.
We have so much good going on at our church.  Check below to see what is going on in the next few weeks.
          Enjoy the journey of life!!

       See you soon!

Update: Unity Church of New Hope, January 9th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

One of the more difficult spiritual lessons that we teach in Unity is that we have a "need" for every experience that we have.  Louise Hay in her many books explains this principle very well.  You Can Heal Your Life book is probably her best book on this subject.

I have personally been doing a lot of thinking about that principle during the last 2 months as I have had a cold that I just could not shake.  I am finally coming to the end of the cold and a "light bulb" went off in my mind.  All during the busy holidays and up through today I have noticed that even though I was not feeling particularly well, I have been feeling very energized too.  It seemed an odd combination to be sick and energized too.

But then I realized that I have put a priority on lots of rest and self care in order to heal.  If I was at the church and felt my energy fading, I would go home and take a nap.  I did not want the possibility of a relapse.  I deliberately gave myself permission to sleep late.  I did not do things that would deplete my energy.

I am now realizing that I have needed to rest and take better care of myself for months.  I needed a "health time out" (plus good daily self care) to regroup but never took one so my body forced me to do it by getting sick.  Now that I am feeling so much better, I am looking at the yearly church calendar and planning "time outs" and rest on my days off.

We each have our own situations to look at but we draw to our lives exactly what we need to help us "wake up" to what is missing or needs to be changed.  If you have lost your job, you probably need or deeply desire a change.  Life will sometimes "kick in" and help you out by causing a loss of a job.  This extends into all areas:  relationships, finances, health, etc.

Basically life is "on our side" no matter what is going on.  The good news is that we can "tune in" to guidance and help through prayer and meditation.  Jesus called this help the inner comforter.  If you have questions about your experiences, ask and you will receive the answers you are needing.

This Sunday we are having Dwain Briggs as a guest musician.  Don't miss his beautiful and inspirational music.

Plus we are having our first potluck in months as our kitchen is now ready and we have lots of room.

     See you soon!

The class is currently working on putting their goals in writing to correlate with the images in their books.
Between Ellen's commitment to the system of Visioning and Lane's commitment to goal setting there are many lessons to be learned in any one night of Visioning class.
This class is supported by love offerings.
A Vision Book is really an inventory of your desires - come stock your shelves.
