Update: Unity of New Hope, Oct. 30th

NOTE FROM ELLEN

I usually walk for about 30 minutes in my neighborhood every morning.  For the first time last week since last Spring, I had to wear a jacket because it was so cold.  Change is definitely in the air.
Changes are also happening on a national level as we elect a new president next week.  We have all watched in amazement and bewilderment as gas prices rose to an all time high of $4 and then when Ike hit the Gulf Coast and the prices were predicted to skyrocket further, we watched as the prices plummeted (I am not complaining about the drop in price).  We are watching large corporations go into bankruptcy with some companies receiving bailouts from the government.  We wonder if our investments are going to be enough as Wall Street goes up and down.  Companies are downsizing.
Change is always stressful and I have heard a lot of emotions being expressed about the elections, high cost of gas, foreclosures, the wars overseas, etc. etc.  It is easy to get caught up in this and wonder what life is going to be like for us in the future.
It is at this point that it is important to take a "break" from the outer world and just relax and breathe for a moment.  Focus on the presence of God.  Think about the good in your life.  Give yourself a vacation from fear and lack.  When you connect spiritually, you can discover another reality of peace and joy.
The more times you stop and breathe and focus on the presence of God/Spirit, the easier it becomes to regroup and feel good no matter what is going on in the world.  I have noticed that coming to church weekly allows me to connect to the group energy of the congregation, which is very powerful and is a "jump start" for the week.    Often I find myself singing the positive uplifting songs that our talented music director, Kathryn Kalahan, has picked out for a Sunday service.  It feels good to be with likeminded people and we have so many wonderful people in our church.
And I know that no matter what is going on in my personal world I can count on God as my Source for all the guidance, love, prosperity, health, etc. that I need.  Being grateful is so important.
November is a month of gratitude as we go into Thanksgiving.  You can start now to think about and list what you are grateful for and as you focus on the good, more good will begin to manifest.  "Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind".  Try it out and see how it works.
This Sunday there is a Parent's meeting right after church (see details below) and also Sunday is the last chance to sign up for the Fall Party (see below).
            See you soon!!

Meditation is good for the mind, body and soul.  If you have never participated in a group meditation, it is something to be experienced.  Getting to know God is an urge and craving of all beings.  Meditation will help you make that connection.
This special program is supported through your love offering and the most important part is your participation. Come to the church or set aside the time and meditate with us from your home if you cannot make it in person.  Be a part of something bigger.

Wednesday
Spiritual Discussion Class
10:30 AM   Ellen Davis Facilitator

VISIONING CLASS
(each Wednesday 7:30 PM)
Ellen Davis and Lane Pierce Facilitators

The class is currently working on putting their goals in writing to correlate with the images in their books.
Visioning is all about dreaming, fantasizing, clarifying and energizing your life.  You decide what it is you want in your life and then begin to envision those things. By collecting and organizing images of items or important words you can surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires.  Between Ellen's commitment to the system of Visioning and Lane's commitment to goal setting there are many lessons to be learned in any one night of Visioning class.
This class is supported by love offerings.
A Vision Book is really an inventory of your desires - come stock your shelves.
